- Female figure carved with elaborate coiffure, bare breast, and Sherbro scarification outside of each eye. The figurine has rounded shoulders, small facial features, and three neck rings. The hands are clasped below the abdomen and beads adorn the neck area The black patina shows indications of handling. The figurine is in excellent condition.

GEOGRAPHY / CULTURE GROUP: Sierra Leone, Sherbro. The Sherbro are primarily fishermen and traders. Their culture is unlike that of other ethnic groups in Sierra Leone. They make up less than 2% of Sierra Leone’s population. They inhabit the Sherbro Islands and the coastal areas of southern Sierra Leone. They were the first indigenous Sierra Leone people to come in contact with European explorers and traders. The Sherbro speak their own language, called Sherbro. Their primary religion is Christianity.
