Mr. Zhu began his painting career in China in the 1970's. He earned his Bachelors Degree there in 1978 and worked as a commercial artist and art professor before coming to the U.S. in 1989. Zhu received a Masters Degree in painting at Redford University in 1991. He is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and has won numerous awards from AWS, OPA, The Artist Magazine and etc. His work has been published in The Artist magazine, Watercolor Magic and Southwest Art..., and his paintings showed with Settlers West Galleries, Trailside galleries, New Master gallery, Nedra Matteucci Fine Art, Texas Art gallery, Saks Gallery, Howard Mandeville Gallery and etc. For years. Currently shown with Mocking Bird gallery. His art in corporate and private collections throughout the world. Xiaogang Zhu's paintings owe their preciseness and expertise in design and space relationships to his background as a textile designer and skill as a colorist. He paints in the tradition of the French Impressionists, emphasizing temperature of color. Zhu's careful choice and skill in manipulating color creates shadow, darks, and lights that are richer and more pleasing to the eye. Working in the opaque medium, gouache and oil, he creates light-filled landscapes and beautifully illuminated waterscapes.
