Hideo Hagiwara was a Japanese artist who worked mainly with woodblock prints. He was born in Kofu, Yamanashi. Between 1921 and 1929 he lived in Korea and Manchuria. He studied at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, where he graduated at the Oil Painting Section in 1938.

He graduated in the Oil Painting Section in 1938 and from there he learned to use wood blocks. He was conscripted to the army in 1943 and by the end of the war he had lost his house as well as his early works. He began working with prints again in 1950 and was known as a constant innovator and one of the best post-WWII Sosaku Hanga artists.
