The Alternative Textbook Program is an initiative for faculty who are interested in replacing traditional textbooks with open textbooks, library subscription materials, or other free materials. In our first year, 14 faculty from across campus replaced their textbooks with materials that were free for students.

In collaboration with Dowdy Student Stores, ECU Libraries offers select required textbooks as a free e-books for students, if available. The Course-Adopted Textbook Guide provides links to available e-book versions of required texts. The guide organizes books by discipline and it is updated on a semester basis. Additionally, the guide provides information Dowdy Student Store initiatives to reduce textbook costs for students.
