Football Practice Now Underway

Teco Echo, October 19, 1932

This year East Carolina Teachers College has a football team practicing every day under Coach Beatty. Two games have already been scheduled. The first is with Carolina Reserves, to be played here on October 29, and the other with Guilford, at Guilford, on November 12. Clyde Brown has been elected manager of this squad.

This is the second year that the Men’s Athletic Association has encouraged intercollegiate sports. Last year a basketball team which won 50 percent of its games was put on the floor. Though the baseball team was not fortunate, it had a successful year considering the raw material it worked with.

Those reporting regularly for football practice are: Jack Barrett, Charles Rumley, Charles King, Bob Eason, Bud Bullock, W. O. Jolly, C.O. Armstrong, Charles Lominac, Carlton MacMillan, Troy Burnette, Alvah Flage, Joe Dresback, Belmont Kittrell, John Hodges, Tom Worthington, Billy Nisbet, Tom Dennis, Woodrow Woodard, J. C. Wynne, Woodrow Worthington, Perry King, Dan Wright, Jack Broadhurst, Junior Rivers, Kelly Abeyounis, Mayhew Sawyer, Alva Van Nortwick, William Woodard and John Blanchard.

Mr. Kenneth Beaty, of Greenville, has had considerable experience both as a player and as a coach and has already organized two full teams in his football squad.

The faculty advisors, or Athletic Council, is composed of Mr. R.C. Deal, Chairman, and Drs. Adams, Frank and Slay. With these men co-operating and working with Coach Beatty, the Men’s Athletic Association hopes to accomplish a worthwhile piece of work during the year.
