| Biographical note | Captain Charles W. Styer, Jr., a Navy junior, enlisted in the Naval Reserves in 1936 before entering the U.S. Naval Academy the following year. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the USS ROWAN at Pearl Harbor. Following the war, he was an assistant Naval Attaché in Paris and served upon other vessels. |
