| Abstract | The aim of this study, based upon 15 months of field work in India in 1970-71, is the examination of all known styles of Samavedic chanting. The author was able to visit exponents of all three schools of the Samaveda: the Kauthuma and Ranayaniya who share to a large extent the same texts but while having a related notation have divergent oral traditions and the Jaiminiya who have a different textual tradition. |
