Abstract The purpose of this study is to determine the nature and extent of the European diffusion of the work and reputation of Charles-Simon Favart. In addition, the book discusses the dissemination of opera-comique, a literary form of which he was one of the most prominent exponents. Contemporary reviews of the pieces under study, incidents attendant upon their performances, and facts that add flavor to the plays or librettos under discussion are also integrated in this study. All plays have been treated in chronological order within each section of the book.
