Abstract The notorious Purple Gang was active in the Detroit area around the1920s and 30s. The gang was allegedly responsible for kidnaping, robbery, extortion, and bootlegging. Two of its leaders, Eddie Fletcher and Abe Axler, were found murdered gangland style in November 1933.
