| Abstract | An electronic music synthesizer is a modular musical instrument capable of creating a wide spectrum of musical sounds. Various modules of the synthesizer are used to generate, bend, shape, and contour sound. The Minimoog shares many design features with the larger studio-oriented Moog Synthesizers. But the Minimoog's modules may be interconnected using rotary controls and rocker switches; this makes it possible to create and alter sound textures rapidly. Synthesis is the combination or composition of parts or elements so as to form a whole. This manual will explain the operation of Minimoog modules that offer control over each "part or element" involved in synthesizing a musical sound. This manual has four sections; each provides a different approach to understanding the Minimoog. "Getting a sound" provides a simple setup that always produces a sound, and a convenient starting pattern for casual exploration. "Minimoog demo" provides a short demonstration of some of the capabilities of the Minimoog. "Sound synthesis" provides systematic instruction in Minimoog operations with suggestions for musical use. "Technical data" comprises the last section of this manual. |
