General noteConducted by Nathan Whiting, the Religious intelligencer published the transactions of the various Bible and missionary societies, accounts of revivals, and progress reports of missions to the American Indians, to Hawaii, to Palestine, and elsewhere, with the space being divided equally between foreign and domestic news. In addition, it contained Sunday school news, obituaries and ordinations, religious biography, literary news, short news summaries, and some poetry. Essays on temperance and a variety of other moral and religious topics were increased in later volumes. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
