Summary The purpose of this study is to research the effect of Herodotus' bias towards the Ionians had on his account of the events, figures, and proposed purpose of the Ionian Revolt. Research has shown that Herodotus had a favorable perspective on other Greek groups. Unlike these groups, Herodotus' perspective of the Ionians as the weakest of the Hellenic ethnic groups permeates his account of the Naxian Expedition, the revolts in Ionia and Cyprus, and the Battle at Lade, collectively known as the Ionian Revolt. This thesis examines Herodotus' Ionian Revolt, its purpose and function, as well as the effect how the author's bias towards the group overshadow the historical significant and the profound political and military innovations of the revolt.
