Abstract Tom Rakewell leaves his country home and Anne the girl he loves, to seek his fortune in London. He unwittingly sells his soul to Nick Shadow in return for a year and a day's enjoyment in the city. When the day of reckoning comes, Tom has second thoughts and his strongest weapon is his love for Anne who has come to London to save him.
