| Abstract | The authors describe the structure and history of piobaireachd, study the men who composed these ancient tunes, and examine the methods by which they transmitted them to succeeding generations. They give advice on the interpretation of this music based on their massive experience and on discussions with leading teachers and other judges. This is the first serious attempt to explain this form of bagpipe music to the general public and to convey the old tradition of playing it for the benefit of pipers and enthusiasts. |
