General noteThe Bodleian Library copy bears the MS. note: "Archdeacon Blacbourn, Dr. Dawson, Mr. Jebb & Dr. Priestley the dissenter, are the cheif heros of the clergy &c who advertise to meet at the London Tavern to promote a petition to Parliament by subscription of the clergy to free them from subscription to the 39 articles &c. & so let in all sorts of free thinkers, Arians, Socinians, Presbyterians &c into the Church. These were distributed to the several Combination Rooms, & one sent to the Vice Chancellor by Mr. Jebb. Given to me at Milton this last of May 1775 by Mr. Tyso Fellow of Benet College, & is to be proposed in the Senate, agreable to a similar subscription of many of the new fashioned clergy, who aim to overturn the establishment.".
