General noteUse of the long "s" suggests imprint date before 1810. Joseph, Josiah and George Lovis were born at Hingham, Mass., where their father, Joseph, was a clock and watch maker. George Lovis, born in 1781 and the youngest of the brothers, was a subscriber to St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Portland, Maine, in 1803.
