General noteThe real calculator of this almanac, as of those in the series for previous years, was Abraham Shoemaker. Signatures [A]-B, containing the calendar pages and eclipse predictions, are revised offprints from Bailey's Rittenhouse almanac for 1811, by Shoemaker (Philadelphia : Lydia R. Bailey). They include all of his astronomical notes, but most of the calculations have been corrected from the meridian of Philadelphia to that of Savannah. Savannah is named in the high-water column and in the eclipse predictions, as well as on the title page.
General noteAnother issue (Shaw & Shoemaker 50986, Drake 10888) has Shoemaker's name on the title page and his calculations for Philadelphia, directly from the typesetting used in Bailey's Rittenhouse almanac. Comparison of these almanacs with those of Joshua Sharp published elsewhere in Philadelphia and in New Jersey for 1811 show a distinctly different set of notes and calculations.
General noteThe present issue of Carey's almanac was clearly intended for sale in Georgia, and the substitution of Sharp's name for Shoemaker's appears to be an intended deception. Almanacs calculated by Sharp were published in Georgia for 1809-1811, and Carey evidently proposed to compete with them by appropriating the familiar calculator's name.
General noteTitle vignette (portrait). The Anatomy is the only other illustration.
General notePages [34-41] contain a register of the state of Georgia.
