October 2nd, 1801 : Dear Sir, On the last Thursday and Friday of this instant, the freemen of Tennessee will be called on to elect a representative in Congress, in the room of William C.C. Claiborne, Esq. who has declined accepting that appointment. I beg leave to mention to you, on this occasion, I shall be a candidate for the honor of the suffrage of my fellow citizens.
