Abstract Many Cherokee tribes gathered to re-enact traditions of their ancestors in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. A year has passed since Andy and his dad chose to stay with their Cherokee family. Andy is learning the Cherokee way of life. At the Green Corn Moon celebration, Andy will perform skills of his ancestors. Nagging questions trouble Andy; "Why do I have only one hand?" "Why am I not like everyone else?" Andy searches for the one who seems to understand everything about him the white stallion. He leaves his faithful friend knowing that he must face his fears alone. Little Bear tells Andy about Dead Man's Cave. "I hear there's gold in that cave!" The boys are excited about exploring the cave. That night, Andy has a frightening dream. A screeching eagle calls, "Beware! Beware!" What does it mean? Will Andy find the courage to overcome his fears?
