| Abstract | This book is a history of music among Primitive Baptists since 1800, and also Primitive Baptist hymnals which often used a distinctive shape note system. These traditions are characterized by a cappella singing, influenced by the belief that instrumental music is not explicitly commanded in the New Testament. |
