Biographical noteMelvin Berman's varied experience as a much sought after pedagogue as well as a performing oboist of international repute make him eminently qualified to write a book about oboe reed making. Having recorded over 15 albums, performed on the sound tracks of more than 200 films, participated in, literally, hundreds of television and radio broadcasts, played thousands of symphony orchestra, opera and ballet performances, as well as solo chamber music concerts too numerous to count, he has had to make reeds for practically every conceivable performing eventuality. It is not surprising that he was chosen to demonstrate the oboe and English horn on The Orchestra, an album narrated by Peter Ustinov for MRP Digital Records.
