Scope and content "The International Sweethearts of Rhythm, an important all woman band of the 1940s, have been an inspiration to me since I first heard them on Rosetta Records in 1984. It has been a great privilege for me and my band to record a two cd tribute to the Sweethearts in homage to their musicianship, their music, their spirit and their story. The idea for Just The Thing came to us after we recorded the first Sweethearts Project. We began experimenting with different tempos, harmony, grooves, to bring the music to a new audience. Just The Thing uses many of the same tracks that we recorded for the first album, but is inspired by the hip-hop, salsa and funk that is a key part of the Kit McClure Band's signature sound. How wonderful to be a contemporary all woman band re-discovering the exciting music of an all woman big band of sixty years ago! Just The Thing is in its own class as a recording project that joins the creative forces of both historical and contemporary women in jazz. Kit McClure"--Program notes.
