Included also are Wolf's three Ibsen songs, originally scored for voice and orchestra. The author discusses the backgrounds of the original poems by Mörike, Eichendorff, and Goethe, among others, as well as the sources from which the Italian and Spanish songbooks were drawn. The notes on each song include its date, key, vocal range, musical character, textual matters, and other settings of the same words.
