| Scope and content | This collection consists of items taken from a Japanese sailor during World War II when he was taken prisoner after being shipwrecked in the East China Sea off Okinawa. Included is a wallet and its contents and a name seal carved in wood. The wallet contents included Japanese paper money, paper money from Fiji and Vietnam, and a document that might be a Japanese ration book. These items had been in the possession of former U.S. Navy sailor Jack F. Sweatte who served on board the USS San Francisco and the USS Hazard. |
