Abstract "In Travis Sutton Byrd's second exploration of the North Carolina textile industry, he probes more broadly the 1929 labor strikes and connects them with the events of 1934 and a larger, economically depressed North Carolina over a five year period. Byrd contends that the five years of labor strife discussed in this study broadly represent the death of the New South resurgence in North Carolina as a myriad of small, industrial towns throughout the mountain and Piedmont region felt the weight of the Great Depression"-- Provided by publisher.
