Summary Description: A typescript copy of a journal kept by Evelyn B Baldwin, Observer, US Weather Bureau on the Wellman Expedition to Franz Joseph Land 1898-1899. The Purpose of this expedition was to go as far north onto the island and establish a winter base, which this journal outline. The journal begins on 15 July 1898 and ends on 30 October 1899. Some correspondence between Baldwin and Wellman appears at the end of the journal, along with the journal of Dr Hof with suggested remedies and lists of medical supplies. There is also a more detailed account of the journey to Graham Bell Land.
