Abstract Every year, Harris City Technology College's dyslexic students gain between 70 and 80% five or more top GCSE passes. This programme investigates what's behind the success of this South East London school, and offers practical strategies to help teachers in other schools identify dyslexic pupils and enable them to achieve in a mainstream classroom environment. Debbie Hart is the Senco and specialist Dyslexia teacher at Harris College. She spends an hour every week with each of her dyslexic students giving them one to one support and providing them with strategies to help them back in the classroom. Each student has a programme of support that is tailor made to their individual needs. Students use IT as a helpful tool to complement their classroom-based learning through various targeted exercises with Debbie to improve aspects of their literacy skills. Debbie believes that by making just a few very simple changes any teacher can make their classroom dyslexia friendly.
