Variant title School matters : teenage sexual health
Abstract In this programme, we look at the alarming numbers of young people with poor sexual health, and examine what more could be done to educate teenagers about safe sex. Two schools in the West Midlands provide examples of good practice in engaging students about sexual health information: the Darlastone Community Science College provides a local theatre group to perform a play, and a question and answer session for its students. We also follow Cockshut Hill Technology College which invites youth workers and nurses from the Primary Care Trust to talk to the students. The programme features interviews with GUM clinic and Brook Advice Centre directors who discuss the sorts of cases they see, and we hear from teenagers themselves, who relate their experiences of sex and relationship education, and whether they think it was sufficient.
