| Abstract | Susan Higgins, headteacher of Parliament Hill girls school, believes that while the past decade has focused the gender debate on boys, there is still a job of work to be done around girls and achievement. Middle-class girls and girls from families with high aspirations may be doing well, but there is a culture of low aspirations in other groups, which schools need to tackle. Her school's intake includes students from a ward with some of the highest national incidences of domestic violence, plus a population whose diversity raises a range of gender issues for girls. This film explores how the school tackles some of these issues and seeks to promote ambition and achievement amongst all its girls. |
