Abstract At Lent Rise Combined School Deputy Headteacher Jill Watson has planned a lively Early Years lesson on Odds and Evens. The starter recaps on the patterns of odds and evens with children identifying odd numbers up to 20. The main activity is creating odd and even numbered petals on a sunflower and the plenary involves children being given numbers and standing up or sitting down depending on whether they are an odd or even digit. Jill was pleased with her lesson but felt that there was no enough physical activity in her starter; and Sara Bubb, senior lecturer at the IOE, reminds teachers that they often take more time than planned on any one activity and that a long time spent sitting on a carpet can be wearisome.
