Abstract Until recently in India, women of a family lived in seclusion in the part of the home known as the zenana. This film is an account of the life in the zenana of Dhrangadhra, Gujarat, in northwest India, seat of the Jhala Rajput from the 11th century to 1947. Through songs, dances and stories of several women, especially through the recollections of the former Maharani, the women reflect on their lives in the zenana in its day-to-day aspects and its special customs.
