| Summary | Intended for reflection seismologists in petroleum exploration, this book brings greater understanding and order to the important and rapidly evolving science of seismic attributes, so that geophysicists can apply attributes more effectively to interpret seismic data. The emphasis is on what all attributes have in common, what they mean, and what they measure, and the argument is made that the meaning of an attribute should guide both its implementation and its application. Certain attributes are judged to be useful and others to be useless, and the advantages as well as the shortcomings of attribute analysis are considered. Sufficient mathematics is provided to implement the attributes, favouring clarity and simplicity over mathematical rigor. |
