However, in the second half of the twentieth century bel canto has come back into fashion, due in large part to the advocacy of a number of conductors from Tullio Serafin to Richard Bonynge, and the emergence of singers with the style and technique necessary to perform the bel canto operas--singers such as Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland, Alfredo Kraus, Nicolai Gedda and, more recently, June Anderson, Samuel Ramey and Cecilia Bartoli. Little-known operas are now being constantly revived.;
