| Abstract | The materials cataloged here are records from the ONE National Gay and Lesbian Archives, the world's largest repository of LGBTQ materials. These files document the lives of LGBTQ individuals from 1940 to 2000, the organizations they founded, the discrimination they faced, and the devastation of the AIDS crisis. Most of the items concern individuals or groups from California. While these materials span the last sixty years of the twentieth century, they focus especially on the period from the mid-1970s through 1990. Media types include minutes, financial records, and membership materials; meeting notes, conference materials and reports; press releases, newsletters, flyers, and other promotional materials; periodical and newspaper clippings; organizational and personal correspondence; novels, nonfiction, and course materials; legal filings; FBI files; surveys; drawings; and photographs. This collection is vital for anyone researching the many facets of LGBTQ life in California and the United States in the second half of the twentieth century. |
