Abstract Lawyer U. Lawrence Boz was born November 1, 1949, in Houston, Texas. Boz graduated from Phyllis Wheatly High School in 1967. In 1973, he earned his B.S. degree from the University of Houston. In 1978, he became the first student to receive a joint M.F. and J.D. degree from Texas Southern University. Boz was bankruptcy counsel for Chevron U.S.A./Gulf Oil Corporation from 1978 to 1987. He was counsel for Allied Bankshares, before founding U. Lawrence Boz and Associates in 1987. Boz was an AMI certified mediator, and closing attorney for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. In 1994, Boz became the first black fee attorney for Fidelity National Title. Boz was elected president of the National Bar Association in 1996, and has served as a state bar examiner for the Texas Board of Law Examiners since 1997. He has received the NAACP Distinguished Service to the Houston Community Award.
