Abstract R&B vocalist James Ingram was born on February 16, 1952 in Akron, Ohio. In the 1970s, Ingram performed in the band Revelation Funk and they traveled to Los Angeles in 1973. Ingram soon performed vocals and keyboards with Ray Charles. In the mid-1970s, he worked with artist Leon Haywood. He earned a reputation as a session vocalist and soon contributed material to songwriter Lamont Dozier. After hearing a demo of Ingram performing a track entitled "Just Once," Quincy Jones began a long collaboration with the singer. "Just Once" became Ingram's first hit, winning two Grammy Awards. Ingram released his debut album, It's Your Night in 1983, selling 850,000 copies. In 1986, Ingram's second album, Never Felt So Good was released, and his third album, It's Real, was released in 1989. Ingram continued performing and recording throughout the 1990s. Ingram toured throughout Asia as a popular U.S. artist.
