Wingate High School, Hardison attended the New York University Art School and the Fashion Institute of Technology. During the 1960s, Hardison became the first African American to work in a showroom. In 1967, she was discovered by designer Willi Smith. She appeared in Allure, Harper's Bazarre, and Vogue throughout the 1970s. She was featured in the 1973 international Versailles Fashion Face Off and then joined Click Model Management in 1980 as a booking agent. In 1984, Hardison formed Bethann Management to manage and develop African American models, and joined forces with Iman to form the Black Girls Coalition in 1988. In 1996, Hardison co-executive produced television sitcoms "Between Brothers" and "Livin Large". She received the 1999 Vibe Style Lifetime Achievement Award, and was named 2010 Vogue Italia editor at large.;
