| Abstract | Professor and nonprofit chief executive Ramona Edelin was born on September 4, 1945, in Los Angeles, California. Edelin attended Fisk University in Nashville, earning her B.A. degree in 1967. She received her M A. degree from the University of East Anglia, in England in 1969, and, later, earned her Ph.D. degree from Boston University in Massachusetts. Edelin joined the National Urban Coalition in 1977, and became president and CEO. Under her leadership, the "Say Yes to a Youngster's Future" program was initiated, bringing science, technology and math assistance to minority students and teachers. She also established the Executive Leadership Program to assist minorities' placement in senior management. Edelin was treasurer and co-founder of the Black Leadership Forum. She received numerous honors, including an invitation by President William J. Clinton to travel to South Africa. She was also named one of the 100 Most Influential Black Americans by Ebony magazine. |
