| Abstract | Association executive Mildred Louise Bond Roxborough was born on June 30, 1926 in Brownsville, Tennessee to Ollie and Mattye Toilette Bond. Educated at Howard University and New York University, she received her undergraduate degree in 1947 and her M.A. degree from Columbia University in 1953. She also attended the University of Paris and the University of Mexico. Roxborough married John W. Roxborough II and began her career at the NAACP as national staff field secretary in 1954. She became executive assistant and administrative assistant to the executive director in 1963, in 1975, she became assistant director, the first woman to serve in these roles. Roxborough has also served as vice chairman of Intergroup Corporation and on boards including America's Charities and Morningside Retirement and Health Incorporated. She has been honored with the James Weldon Johnson Medal, the Medgar Wiley Evers Award and America's Charities Distinguished Service Award. |
