| Abstract | Former Mayor Sharon Pratt was born on January 30, 1934 in Washington, D.C. In 1965, she earned her B.S. degree in political science from Howard University and her J.D. degree in 1968 from Howard University Law School. Pratt became in-house counsel for the Joint Center for Political Studies in 1970. In 1971, she joined the law firm Pratt & Queen PC as an associate. In 1972, Pratt became a law professor at Antioch School of Law in Washington, D.C. until 1976 when she became the Associate General Counsel for Potomac Electric Power Company. In 1982, Pratt directed the failed mayoral campaign for Patricia Robert Harris, and married Arrington Dixon. Pratt was promoted to Director of Consumer Affairs for Potomac Electric in 1979 and then Vice President of Consumer Affairs in 1983. In 1990, Pratt won the mayoral election in Washington, D.C. and in 1994 was defeated by former Marion Barry. In 2002, Pratt started her Pratt Consulting firm. |
