Abstract Journalist Richard Prince was born on July 26, 1947, in New York, New York. Prince graduated from New York University in 1969 with his B.S. degree in journalism. He was hired at the Washington Post after college, where he would become part of the "Metro Seven," a group of African American reporters that filed a complaint against the Washington Post in 1972 regarding their equal employment rights. From 1979 until 1994, Prince worked at the Democrat and Chronicle, where he would eventually become editor of the Speaking Out page. From 1994 to 1998, Prince served as the publications editor for Communities In Schools. In 2002, he became founding editor of Black College Wire and began writing Richard Prince's Journal-isms through the Robert C. Maynard Institute for Journalism Education. Prince was awarded the Ida B. Wells Award from Northwestern University and the National Association of Black Journalists in 2013.
