Adopted at ten months, Lambert was educated in the South before moving to Chicago where she attended Northwestern University and received her B.A. degree. A mother of five, Lambert spent half her life savings on the first piece of property she owned. In 1965, Lambert worked as a sales representative at Well's Realty in Chicago until she became a certified real estate broker in 1968. Shortly thereafter, she established Lambert's Realty on Chicago's West Side which was incorporated in 1977. Lambert became the first African American woman certified as a real estate manager and became a certified real estate appraiser. Lambert was appointed by the National Association of Realtors to work as district coordinator for Illinois Congressman Danny Davis. In 2015, Lambert retired and her son, Kenneth Lambert, succeeded her in running Lambert's Realty.;
