Abstract Drummer Geraldine "Gerry" Moore was born on October 29, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to Guy and Violet Moore. She grew up attending public schools in Chicago and New Orleans after her mother passed while she was a young girl. Once in high school, after dabbling in piano and valve trombone, she began to play the drums with the concert and marching band at Booker T. Washington High School in New Orleans. From that point, Moore played jazz music gigs for most of her adult life. She performed with various bands, ensembles and groups and played throughout the United States. In 1999, the storyline of Moore's musical career was featured in Regina Taylor's play, Oo-Bla-Dee: Ladies in Jazz. Moore played with the Organization Ensemble of Dave Anderson and Mars Catchum, beginning in 1974, and in 2001, Moore began playing with the KCR Ladies Jazz Ensemble.
