Abstract Education administrator and consultant Sandra Ford Johnson was born on January 7, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois. Johnson helped integrate the University of Chicago's Laboratory School. At age fifteen, she enrolled at the University of Chicago, and earned her B.A. degree in 1958. Johnson taught in Los Angeles before moving to Heidelberg, Germany in 1967 to work with the U.S. Department of Defense's Overseas Dependent Schools program. After receiving her Ph.D. degree in educational administration from the University of Kansas, Johnson was hired as assistant superintendent for the Washington, D.C. school system. She implemented health and counseling programs for 140,000 students and produced a cable TV program profiling successes in the city's schools. Later, she became state director of public education with oversight of all policies and programs affecting students with disabilities in the District of Columbia. In 1997, Johnson founded a consulting company, SE3, providing services to both government and business entities.
