Abstract Record executive Steve McKeever was born on June 18, 1960 in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from St. Ignatius High School, McKeever attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he graduated in 1982. From there, he attended Harvard Law School and earned his J.D degree in 1985. He was hired by the firm of Irell & Manella in Los Angeles as an entertainment lawyer. He then joined Motown Records in 1991. Before departing in 1995, he had expanded their artist repertoire and overseen the highly-profitable sale of the company to PolyGram Records. In 1998, McKeever founded Hidden Beach Recordings which boasted R&B performers Jill Scott and Darius Rucker. Hidden Beach was tapped to release "Yes, We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement Compilation" CD to benefit the Barack Obama presidential campaign in 2008. McKeever served on the board of directors of several organizations, including the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences.
