Abstract Banking executive Ed Williams was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 5, 1942. After graduating high school, he attended Clark College in Atlanta, but returned to Chicago before graduating. He would later earn her B.S. degree from Roosevelt University. After returning to Chicago from Atlanta, Williams bought a Chicago Tribune distributorship on the West Side in 1961, but gave the business up the next year. He entered the world of banking in 1963, and in 1964, he became the first African American male to work at Harris Bank. He remained there for forty years before retiring, rising to the position of executive vice president of community affairs. During his years there, he was a mentor for many. He was also civically active, serving on the boards of the Adler Planetarium, the Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago and the Art Institute of Chicago. While enjoying his retirement, Williams and his wife, Ana, resided in Chicago.
