Abstract Lawyer and professor Larry Gibson was born in Washington, D.C. on March 22, 1942. He earned his high school diploma from Baltimore City College High School in 1960, and earned his B.A. degree from Howard University in 1964. In 1967, Gibson earned his law degree from Columbia University in New York. From 1963 to 1970, Gibson worked as an associate for the firm of Brown, Allen, Dorsey and Josey, where he became a partner in 1970. From 1969 to 1975, Gibson served on the Baltimore City School Board. In 1972, Gibson became the first African American law professor at the University of Virginia, a post he held until 1974. Gibson then accepted a position at the University of Maryland law school as an associate professor. In 1977 he became a full professor at Maryland. Gibson has served as a political strategist who successfully masterminded several campaigns for former Baltimore mayor, Kurt Schmoke.
