| Abstract | Professor Sandra Grymes was born in 1938 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Between 1973 and 1995, she held management positions in various New York City social service agencies in the Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation with Planned Parenthood Federation of America and with the American Red Cross. Grymes earned her A.B. degree in sociology from Temple University, her M.S.W. degree from Bryn Mawr College. She earned her M.B.A. degree from Baruch College in New York City. In 1996, she became adjunct professor in the Graduate School of Management and Urban Policy at the New School for Social Research in New York City. A cousin of famed singer Marian Anderson, Grymes was involved with legacy work for Anderson for decades. With Anderson's nephew James DePriest, Grymes helped establish the Marian Anderson Memorial Music Center at the University of Pennsylvania Library. She served on the board of the Permanent Endowment for Martha's Vineyard. |
