520 a| Minister Reverend Joseph Anthom Darby, Jr. was born on August 7, 1951, in Columbia, South Carolina. Darby attended Booker T. Washington High School. He earned his B. A. degree in sociology at South Carolina State University in 1973; and attended Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. Darby began his career as a juvenile probation counselor for the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice. After thirteen years, he joined the ministry, becoming the fourth generation of ministers in his family in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1998, Darby was the senior pastor of Morris Brown A.M.E. Church in Charleston, South Carolina. He was also is a president of both the Greater Columbia (South Carolina) Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance and the Greater Columbia Interfaith Clergy Association. He was also a board member for the Reid House of Christian Service and a first vice-president of the South Carolina Conference of Branches of the NAACP.;
