Abstract Author Freddi Williams Evans was born in 1957, in Madison, Mississippi, to Reverend R. L. and Carrie Cotton Williams. In her early years, she studied piano and traveled frequently with her family. At the age of sixteen, she attended Tougaloo College to study piano and graduated with dual degrees in music and psychology. She went on to Hahnemann University where she received her M.F.A. degree in creative arts therapy with an emphasis in music. Evans later moved to New Orleans where she began working as a music therapist and educator of the arts with the Jefferson Parish Public School System. In 2001, Evans became an independent arts education consultant and in 2003, authored Bus of Our Own. Evans also wrote The Battle of New Orleans: The Drummer's Story in 2005 and Hush Harbor: Praying in Secret in 2008. In 2010, her fourth children's book, Come Sunday: New Orleans' Congo Square was released.
